Movies with Rutherford emphasise humour side of stories, they are all very loosely after novels, in two of them even Miss Marple undertakes the role of Poirot (Murder at the Gallop, Murder Most Foul) or the role of other character (Murder She Said - the role of Lucy Eyelesbarrow, Miss Marple infiltrates as housekeeper into the Rutherford Hall instead of Lucy in novel). /
Hoci nemôžem povedať, že Margaret Rutherford je najlepšou slečnou Marplovou, mám ju rada zo sentimentálnych dôvodov - je totiž prvou slečnou Marplovou, ktorú som kedy videla - v kine, v To je vražda, povedala. Dodnes si pamätám, aký to bol pre mňa zážitok...
Filmy s Rutherford zdôrazňujú humornú stránku príbehov, sú veľmi voľne inšpirované románmi, v dvoch z nich dokonca slečna Marplová prevezme úlohu Poirota (Vražda v pokluse, Vražda je väčšinou nevhodná), alebo úlohu inej postavy (To je vražda, povedala - úlohu Lucy Eyelesbarrowovej, slečna Marplová sa ako gazdiná sama infiltruje do sídla Rutherford Hall namiesto Lucy v románe).

Joan Hickson
I think for every further actress who played Miss Marple after her was it rather hard. Joan Hickson is frequently described as the "definitive" Miss Marple and I agree. She is embodiement of character, perfectly suits to it by her appearance and performance. Hickson was Miss Marple in same called series porduced by British TV BBC and aired on BBC one in 1984 - 1992. All twelve original Miss Marple Christie novels were dramatised, the adaptations are mainly true to originals, with impeccably cast, lovingly photographed,with beautiful theme music composed by Ken Howard.
As Queen Elisabeth II was a large fan of the series and Joan Hicksons performance, Joan Hickson was for his role bestowed of an OBE (Order of British Imperium) award.
Its only pity we cannot see this amazing series now-a-days on TV... /
Myslím, že každá ďalšia herečka, ktorá hrala slečnu Marplovú po nej, to mala veľmi ťažké. Joan Hickson často označujú za "definitívnu" slečnu Marplová a ja súhlasím, Je stelesnením postavy, perfektne sa hodí svojím vzhľadom aj stvárnením. Hickson hrala slečnu Marplovú v rovnomennom seriáli z produkcie britskej TV BBC, ktorý sa vysielal na BBC one v rokoch 1984 - 1992. Boli zdramatizované všetky (dvanásť) originálne romány Agathy Christie so slečnou Marplovou, adaptácie sú značne verné predlohám, s bezvadným obsadením,
s láskyplnou prácou kamery a krásnou hudbou, ktorú skomponoval Ken Howard.
Kráľovná Alžbeta II bola veľkým fanúšikom seriálu a hereckého stvárnenia Joan Hickson, preto jej udelila titul OBE (Rad britského impéria).
Je len škoda, že tento úžasný seriál dnes nemôžeme sledovať v televízii....

Agatha Christie's Marple series / Seriál Agathy Christie Marple
Marple is British ITV series which ran in 6 seasons in 2004 - 2009 with Geraldine McEwan as Miss Marple and in 2009 - 2013 after she retired from her role with Julia McKenzie. There is very long list of writers and directors on wiki, so I will not present them here. Each episode is feature-length. Read list of episodes here. First six episodes were all adaptations of Miss Marple novels by Christie, further were both from works featuring Miss Marple and works by Christie that didn't feature the character.
And that's just the point that is rather annoyed for me. There are such lovely characters of "investigators" in this works - Tommy and Tuppence in By the Pricking of my Thumb, Bobby and Frankie in Why didn't they ask Evans?, Lady Eileen "Bundle" Brent in The Secret of Chimneys, Luke Fitzwilliam in Murder is Easy, Emily Trefusis in Sittaford Mystery, Angus McWhirter in Towards Zero, no investigator in Endless Night,...! Why the authors hat to put in Miss Marple as "investigator"? In most of cases she raises impression of fifth wheel of coach.
And even original Marple novels - except one - Pocket Full of Rye" - couldn't stay unchanged - from The Body in the Library which was quite faithful till rather stunning change of identity of the murder to such travesties as Sittaford Mystery or Sleeping Murder. Why such a need to "make better" something brilliant?
And although both McEwan and McKenzie are great actresses and suit to character rather good, they actually got no chance to show it. McEwan stayed rather vague, a bit distrait, McKenzie too decent. Paradoxically I like McKenzie mostly in such a "hybrid" Greenshaw's Folly (put together Marple short stories Greenshaw's Folly and The Thumb Mark of St. Peter), but also in Caribbean Mystery.
No, this series, in spite of lovely locations, settings, camera, music and great actors, is not worth great Agatha Christie at all... /
Marple je britský seriál, ktorý bežal v 6 sériách v r. 2004 - 2009 s Geraldine McEwan ako slečnou Marplovou a v r. 2009 - 2013, keď sa vzdala úlohy, s Juliou McKenzie. Na wikipédii je dlhočizný zoznam autorov a režisérov, nebudem ho tu uvádzať. Každá epizóda má formát celovečerného filmu. Čítaj zoznam epizód tu. Prvých šesť epizód je adaptáciou románov Chistie so slečnou Marplovou, ďalšie sú aj adaptáciami marplovských kníh, aj kníh, kde táto postava nevystupuje.
A to je práve fakt, ktorý ma rozčuľuje. Sú to predsa také skvelé postavy "vyšetrovateľov" v týchto dielach - Tommy a Pentlička v Dum u kanálu, Bobby a Frankie v Proč nepožádali Evanse?, Lady Eileen "Palička" Brentová v Tajemství Chimneys, Luke Fitzwilliam vo Vždyť je to hračka, Emily Trefusis v Sittafordskej záhade, Angus McWhirter v Nultej hodine, žiadny vyšetrovateľ v Nekonečná noc,...! Prečo autori museli pridať slečnu Marplovú ako "vyšetrovateľa"? Vo väčšine prípadov pôsobí potom ako piate koleso na voze.
A ani originálne marplovské romány - okrem jednej výnimky - Kapsa plná žita - neostali ušetrené zmien - od Mŕtvej v knižnici, ktorá bola dosť verná predlohe, ale len do značne šokujúcej zmeny identity vraha, až po také výsmechy ako Sittafordská záhada a Zabudnutá vražda. Prečo tá potreba "vylepšovať" niečo brilantné?
A hoci McEwan aj McKenzie sú skvelé herečky, ktoré sa aj hodia na postavu, vlastne nedostali šancu to ukázať. McEwan zostala nevýrazná a trochu roztržitá, McKenzie príliš decentná. Paradoxne sa mi McKenzie najviac páčila v "hybride" Greenshawov rozmar (spája dve marplovské poviedky Greenshawov rozmar a Odtlačok palca Svätého Petra), ale tiež v Karibskom tajomstve.
Nie, tento seriál, napriek krásnemu prostrediu, výprave, kamere, hudbe a skvelým hercom, vôbec nie je hodný skvelej Agathy Christie...
